Sky Ride

Sky Rides are mass participation events for cyclists of all ages that take over towns and cities all over the UK. The free events and activities are part of a national campaign by Sky and British Cycling to encourage people of all ages and abilities to take up cycling. Sky Ride was set up in 2012 as part of British Cycling’s goal of getting 1 million more people on their bike by 2020.

The one day cycling events offer people the chance to ride their bikes on traffic free streets in major cities and towns in the UK. Over 146,000 people took part in 2012 city events, with 16,000 taking part in Sky Ride local rides. Local rides are led by British Cycling ride leaders. The ride city events were held in 16 countries across the UK in 2013, and are set to return in 2014.

The events are supported by Halford’s cycle mechanics who are on hand to make repairs to participant’s bikes beforehand to make sure everything is in working order. The rides are designed so that you are able to turn up and ride for as long as you like, and do as much of the route as you want. It’s easy to get involved, and everyone can join up, it just takes a few minutes to sign up online.
